We do the research,
so that you can get back to the life you planned.
Annual Report 2023/24
Breast Cancer Trials (BCT) is a research charity which conducts national and international clinical trials for the treatment, prevention and cure of breast cancer.
We run the largest, independent, oncology clinical trials research program across Australia and New Zealand, involving both national and international clinical trials with 980 researchers and 118 participating institutions. The impact of our research since 1978 has been lives saved, improved treatments, better quality of life for patients and changes to the way breast cancer is managed.
But we still have more to do.
Sadly, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and is still taking lives. 1 in 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. So we won’t stop doing our job, until no‑one has to fear that their life will be cut short by this disease.
There are 980 researchers, including oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and nurses, who are involved in the conduct of the BCT research program.
Since 1978, 17,481 people have participated in our clinical trials, to help us find new and better treatments for breast cancer.
Our research program encompasses approximately 93 clinical trials in various stages of recruitment, follow-up, analysis and publication.
118 participating institutions in Aus and NZ, and 68 sites in Chile, Argentina, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland and Taiwan.
We have contributed to 1,310 scientific publications, which are advancing medical knowledge and improving treatments and prevention strategies for breast cancer.
Our research is made possible thanks to the generosity of 26,000 active supporters, including individuals, businesses, trusts and foundations, organisations and community groups who donated and raised funds in 2023-2024.
Naomi and her husband Brett will never forget the heart-shattering day they had to tell their three girls that mum has breast cancer. Find out more about Naomi’s story and why she supports the research of Breast Cancer Trials.
Breast Cancer Trials is grounded and defined by one simple belief: We can and we will find new and better treatments and prevention strategies for every person affected by breast cancer that saves lives today, tomorrow and forever.
